Update!

Me screen printing away at the hunk posters.

Updated my website thoroughly (can’t be bothered to spell-check that. Most of you don’t know how to spell it either so lets not think about).

Jamie McKelvie, Fabio Moon and Gabriel Bá

A quick sketch I did in the dark at a talk with twin cartoonists Fabio Moon and Gabriel Bá. I’m a big fan of Bá’s style and they’re doing really interesting stuff in mainstream comics in the states. Their latest comic Daytripper is exceptionally well-written as well. Them being twins and working together in the same studio and churning out big projects all the time doesn’t make them less interesting. Made me feel lazy and bad but motivated. Also I was so dizzy I felt sick.

Chop That Morning Wood

Two experimental posters with all the latest techniques I’ve been working in: Ink wash, typography and screen printing. I recently realised I’ve completely neglected my love for letter forms for no good reason, so I’m definitely going to incorporate that into future work when I can.

As usual, I’m drawing hot guys for all y’all (straight/bi) ladies out there, to give you something to look at for a change. And guys, you don’t have to avert your eyes either.

I’ve Got Hose is screen printed in B2 (50×70 cm) and for sale in a limited less-than-ten prints run. Morning Wood will be screen printed in the beginning of October. Drop me a line at hello (a) janbielecki.com if you’re interested in acquiring one of these honeys, or why not both?

It’s sweat, nothing else!

I n the absence of a digital camera I’m left with Photo Boothing my work. In the absence of a board of any kind I’m left with taping my work to the table. Didn’t work though, it came off, don’t know why. But I think the tape still kept the paper fairly flat for the most part. Been trying to befriend ink wash lately and allthough I have a loooooooong way to go it’s good fun and I’m getting somewhere I think.

But I feel like I need to get alot wetter (in the painting style — not while looking at it. Or why not, it doesn’t hurt!) and as usual the areas I haven’t quite figured out when I move to ink look… less figured out. It’s even harder to improvise things like that in ink wash than it is in ink, as you need to plan where the tones will be going. Or at least I have to. For the time being.

I halftoned (what’s the English verb?) the ink wash (double niceness!) last night and today I was screen printing it in B2 (50×70, hope to get some pics later). On Wednesday I’ll smack a layer of hand drawn raunchy text on top of it. Go tell your rich gay art patrons! It’s for our second year exhibition next week.

Edit: Just after posting this I visited Daily Drop Cap by Jessica Hische and felt a drop cap on today’s post would be fun. But I assumed she hasn’t made an I out of a fire hydrant yet so I scrambled one together in the last five minutes.
